How would I take a 2.5 V signal, set it to zero and then give it a gain of 6?
I need to condition a signal for a DAQ device so I can measure it properly. Any help/suggestions is greatly appreciated.
Lots of ways to do this, all complicated. You have to decide if you need this detail.
I’d use an inverting opamp with a negative voltage reference.
Use a voltage reference to generate a –2.5 volts, feed that into the inverting opamp with an input resistor of 2.5k. The feedback resistor would be changed between three different values with reed relays or solid state switches, between zero ohms, for zero output, 2.5k for +2.5 volts output, and 15k for 15 volts output. (gain of 6 means, to me, 2.5v x 6 = 15 volts output)
The opamp would have to run on asymetrical supplies, +18 and –10 volts. The accuracy that you need for these signals will determine how good an opamp you need, as well as the accuracy of the voltage reference and the accuracy of the resistors.
An easier alternative, but with a high output impedance, is just a voltage divider from a stable and accurate +15 volt source that has a tap at 2.5 volts. Relays can select +15, +2.5 or 0.
Now you need a sequencer to sequence between the three values. Need more info to decide on how to do this.
edit: rereading, I got a different interpretation, that you have a 2.5 volt signal, possibly AC, and you want to select an output of either zero gain or 6 gain, ie, output to switch between 15 volts and zero volts. But the solution is about the same as noted above.
